Firehouse News

January 16, 2019 - The Summerville Rotary Club is presenting the Firehouse at Cane Bay Fundraising Committee with a $1,000 Grant check for the FIREHOUSE FEST.  This is especially nice since it is the Summerville Rotary Club and Summerville has its own Firehouse.  The check will be made out to Whitesville Rural Volunteer Firehouse, however, it will be processed through Steve Resnick, Treasurer who will give to Mark Cotone for deposit into the Whitesville - Firehouse at Cane Bay Line Budget Item.

January 9, 2019 - Whitesville Rural Volunteer Firehouse Chief Stephenson spoke at the Cane Bay Plantation HOA meeting on January 9, 2019. The Chief said the Firehouse at Cane Bay was almost ready to break ground except that the government shut down is holding things up.

October 2, 2018 - Met with Fire Chief Timothy Stephenson, Whitesville Rural Volunteer Fire Department, October 2, 2018, regarding their role in the FIREHOUSE FEST and the build status of the Firehouse at Cane Bay.  They are on board coordinating area Fire Departments participating in the FIREHOUSE FEST and their presenting Children’s Fire Prevention Games and Fire Prevention Sessions for Adults with numerous give-aways.

Also discussed the Firehouse at Cane Bay.  The Chief thought the Firehouse will begin build in a few months.…I took that as beginning of 2019.  Chief recently responded to my note inquiring as to the Firehouse at Cane Build status as a number of residents asked me for such.  He said he believes the beginning of 2019 is good to begin the Firehouse Build.  He is naturally reluctant to provide a specific date as people become infuriated when the date passes and no Firehouse being built…some residents calling and sending terribly threatening emails and cursing staff.   The Firehouse at Cane Bay Build Loan is an interest free Federal Loan.  The permit process is complete, construction company anxiously standing ready to build.  The delays stem from each time the Chief/staff complete a Government Form, another is sent which must be processed through all checkoffs repeatedly extending the time.  They are quite frustrated by the government lengthy requirements as would be imagined.  When I asked why they did not get a bank loan, the Chief noted the interest on the loan would absorbident.  So we wait.  The Chief believes the build beginning early 2019 is feasible….it is as close he can determine at this juncture.
